The Department of BioMedical Engineering provides instruction and interdisciplinary research opportunities in the application of engineering, mathematics and the physical sciences to problems in medicine and the life sciences. Courses are offered for graduate students and advanced undergraduates in both the life sciences and the physical sciences.
This page highlights some of our research activities.

us
.
We build mathematical models of the ear, to help us understand how the ear works and how to design better diagnostic tests and middle-ear prostheses. See experimental measurements of how the eardrum moves, watch animated models and interact with a 3-D model of the middle ear.
In the neuromuscular control lab we perform experiments to help us understand how the nervous system controls muscles to produce movement.
The work in the oculomotor control lab is aimed at developing better models to describe the workings of the brain in controlling eye movements and their coordination with head movements.
We have started to convert notes for the whole medical curriculum into an electronic format. Take a look at what notes on the Web might be like, and try searching for things in a collection of medical images.
